Setting Up the "Facebook & Instagram" Shopify App

Overview

Before connecting Agency AI to your Meta ad account, if you have not done so already we strongly recommend installing and configuring Meta's official Facebook & Instagram app on your Shopify store. This app establishes the foundational link between your Shopify store and Meta's advertising platform, which ensures a smooth connection when you authorize Agency AI.

Why This Step Matters

The Meta Shopify App links your store's domain, product catalog, and Meta Pixel to your Meta Business account. Without this connection properly configured, third-party apps like Agency AI may encounter authorization errors — most commonly, Meta pulling the wrong store reference or failing to recognize your domain during the connection process.

This is especially important if your store's theme was built by a developer, as residual development references can sometimes interfere with Meta's authorization flow.

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Install the Facebook & Instagram App

From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Shopify App Store and search for "Facebook & Instagram." Click "Add App" and authorize the installation.

Step 2: Connect Your Meta Account

Once installed, open the Facebook & Instagram app from your Shopify admin. Click "Start Setup" and log in with the Meta (Facebook) account that manages your business assets (Ad Account, Pixel, and Business Page).

Step 3: Select Your Meta Business Account

During the setup flow, Meta will ask you to select or create a Business Account. Choose the account associated with your advertising. If you don't have one, you can create a new one during this step.

Step 4: Connect Your Facebook Page

Select the Facebook Page you want to associate with your Shopify store. This is the page that will appear on your ads and shop presence.

Step 5: Connect Your Ad Account

Select the Meta Ad Account you'll be using to run ads. This should be the same ad account you plan to use with Agency AI.

Step 6: Set Up Your Meta Pixel

Choose your existing Meta Pixel or create a new one. The Pixel tracks visitor activity on your store and is essential for ad targeting, retargeting, and conversion tracking. Make sure the Pixel is associated with the correct domain.

Step 7: Verify Your Domain

Meta may prompt you to verify your store's domain. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete domain verification. You can also verify your domain manually by going to Meta Business Suite > Business Settings > Brand Safety > Domains and adding your store's primary domain.

Step 8: Review and Confirm

Review all connected assets (Page, Ad Account, Pixel, Domain) and confirm the setup. Once complete, your Shopify store will be fully linked to Meta's platform.

Confirming a Successful Setup

After setup, go to Meta Business Suite > Business Settings > Accounts > Pages and verify your store domain is listed. Then check Data Sources > Pixels to confirm your Pixel is active and receiving events from your store.

Next Steps

With the Meta Shopify App properly configured, you're ready to connect Agency AI. Navigate to the Agency AI app in your Shopify admin and follow the Meta authorization prompts. The connection should now proceed smoothly since your assets are already linked.
