Verifying Your Domain in Meta Business Suite
Overview
Domain verification tells Meta that you are the confirmed owner of your website's domain. This is an important step that ensures your store's connection to Meta is secure and that your ads and Pixel data are properly attributed. Agency AI requires a verified domain to function correctly.
Why Domain Verification Matters
Without domain verification, you may experience issues such as:
- Meta authorization errors when connecting third-party apps like Agency AI
- Limited ability to configure conversion events for your Pixel
- Reduced ad delivery and tracking accuracy
- Meta pulling incorrect store references during the connection process
Domain verification is a one-time setup that takes just a few minutes.
How to Verify Your Domain
Step 1: Open Meta Business Settings
Go to Meta Business Suite and navigate to Business Settings > Brand Safety > Domains.
Step 2: Add Your Domain
Click "Add" and enter your Shopify store's primary domain (e.g., yourstorename.com). Do not include "https://" or "www." — just the root domain.
Step 3: Choose a Verification Method
Meta offers several verification methods. For Shopify stores, we recommend one of the following:
Option A: Meta Tag Verification (Recommended)
- Meta will provide you with a meta tag code snippet.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Click the three dots next to your published theme and select Edit Code.
- Open the
theme.liquidfile in the Layout folder. - Paste the meta tag in the
<head>section, just before the closing</head>tag. - Click Save.
- Return to Meta Business Settings and click "Verify."
Option B: DNS TXT Record Verification
- Meta will provide a TXT record value.
- Log in to your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, Cloudflare).
- Add a new TXT record to your domain's DNS settings with the value provided by Meta.
- Return to Meta Business Settings and click "Verify."
Note: DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to propagate, though they often complete within a few hours.
Step 4: Confirm Verification
Once verified, your domain will show a green checkmark in Meta Business Settings. This confirms Meta recognizes you as the owner of the domain.
Verifying the Correct Domain
Make sure you are verifying your store's primary customer-facing domain. To check which domain is your primary:
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
- Your primary domain is listed at the top. This is the domain customers see when they visit your store.
If your store was built by a developer using a development or preview URL, make sure your primary domain has been updated to your actual store domain before verifying with Meta.
After Verification
Once your domain is verified, you can:
- Configure Aggregated Event Measurement for your Pixel
- Complete the Meta Shopify App setup without domain-related errors
- Connect Agency AI with a clean Meta authorization flow
If you've previously attempted to connect Agency AI and encountered a domain-related error, try disconnecting and reconnecting after completing domain verification.
