Linking Your Meta Ad Account & Pixel
Overview
Your Meta Ad Account and Pixel are the two core assets required to run and track ads through Agency AI. This guide explains how to confirm they're properly linked and how to troubleshoot common issues.
Understanding Ad Accounts and Pixels
Meta Ad Account — This is where your ad campaigns, budgets, and billing live. Agency AI uses your Ad Account to create, manage, and optimize campaigns on your behalf.
Meta Pixel — The Pixel is a small piece of tracking code installed on your Shopify store. It tracks visitor behavior (page views, add-to-carts, purchases) and sends this data back to Meta so your ads can be optimized for conversions.
For Agency AI to effectively manage your ads, both assets need to be properly linked to your Shopify store and accessible within your Meta Business account.
How to Verify Your Ad Account Is Linked
- Go to Meta Business Suite.
- Navigate to Business Settings > Accounts > Ad Accounts.
- Confirm your Ad Account is listed and that your name or business is shown as an admin.
- Make sure the Ad Account's status is Active (not disabled or restricted).
If your Ad Account doesn't appear, you may need to add it to your Business account by clicking "Add" and entering your Ad Account ID.
How to Verify Your Pixel Is Linked
- In Meta Business Suite, navigate to Business Settings > Data Sources > Pixels.
- Confirm your Pixel is listed and shows recent activity.
- Click on the Pixel name and verify that your Shopify store's domain appears under Associated Domains.
If your Pixel isn't receiving data, make sure the Meta Facebook & Instagram app is properly installed on your Shopify store (see: Setting Up the Meta Shopify App).
Testing Your Pixel
To confirm your Pixel is firing correctly on your store:
- Install the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension.
- Visit your Shopify store and browse a few pages.
- Click the Pixel Helper extension icon in your browser toolbar.
- You should see events like PageView, and when you add a product to cart, you should see AddToCart.
If no events are appearing, revisit the Meta Shopify App setup to ensure the Pixel is correctly installed.
Linking Your Ad Account to Your Pixel
Your Ad Account and Pixel should be connected within Meta Business Suite so that campaign data flows properly:
- Go to Business Settings > Data Sources > Pixels.
- Click on your Pixel.
- Under Connected Assets, click "Add Assets."
- Select your Ad Account from the list and confirm.
Common Issues
Pixel Not Receiving Events — This usually means the Pixel code isn't installed on your store, or it's the wrong Pixel. Reinstall the Meta Shopify App and make sure you select the correct Pixel during setup.
Ad Account Shows "Disabled" — Meta may have disabled your Ad Account due to policy violations or billing issues. Visit the Account Quality page to review and resolve any issues.
Multiple Ad Accounts or Pixels — If you have more than one Ad Account or Pixel, make sure you're selecting the same ones across your Meta Shopify App and Agency AI. Mismatched assets are a common source of tracking and optimization issues.
