Fix: Meta Assets Not Properly Linked
Overview
For Agency AI to manage your advertising effectively, your Meta assets — Ad Account, Pixel, Facebook Page, and Business Account — need to be properly linked to one another within Meta Business Suite. If any of these assets are disconnected, misconfigured, or assigned to different Business accounts, you may experience errors when connecting Agency AI or notice issues with ad delivery and tracking.
Symptoms of Improperly Linked Assets
You may have a Meta asset linking issue if you experience any of the following:
- Agency AI connects successfully but shows missing or incomplete data on the dashboard
- Ad campaigns are created but don't deliver impressions
- Conversion events (purchases, add-to-carts) aren't being tracked
- The Agency AI dashboard shows ROAS as zero despite confirmed sales
- You receive a "permissions error" or "asset not found" message within Agency AI
- The Meta authorization flow doesn't display one or more of your expected assets
Understanding How Meta Assets Connect
Here's how the four core assets should be linked:
Your Meta Business Account is the parent container. It should own or have access to your Ad Account, your Facebook Page, and your Pixel. Your Pixel should be associated with your store's domain and connected to your Ad Account so that conversion data flows into your campaigns.
If any of these links are broken — for example, if your Pixel belongs to a different Business account than your Ad Account — the data chain is interrupted and Agency AI can't function properly.
How to Verify and Fix Your Asset Links
Check Your Ad Account
- Go to Meta Business Suite > Business Settings > Accounts > Ad Accounts.
- Confirm your Ad Account is listed under your Business Account.
- Click on the Ad Account and check that your user account has Admin access.
- If the Ad Account isn't listed, click "Add" and enter your Ad Account ID to claim it, or request access from the current owner.
Check Your Facebook Page
- In Business Settings, go to Accounts > Pages.
- Confirm your Facebook Page is listed and that you have Admin access.
- If the Page isn't listed, click "Add" and either add a Page you own or request access to one managed by someone else.
Check Your Pixel
- In Business Settings, go to Data Sources > Pixels.
- Confirm your Pixel is listed and shows recent activity (events received in the last 24 hours).
- Click on the Pixel and check Connected Assets — your Ad Account should be listed here.
- If your Ad Account isn't connected to the Pixel, click "Add Assets" and select it.
Check Your Domain
- In Business Settings, go to Brand Safety > Domains.
- Confirm your store's domain is listed and verified (green checkmark).
- If the domain isn't verified, follow our guide: Verifying Your Domain in Meta Business Suite.
Common Scenarios and Solutions
Pixel belongs to a different Business Account than the Ad Account. This happens when assets were created at different times or by different team members. You'll need to either transfer the Pixel to the correct Business Account or request partner access. Go to Business Settings > Data Sources > Pixels, select the Pixel, and use "Assign Partner" to share access with your primary Business Account.
Ad Account was created outside of a Business Account. Personal Ad Accounts created directly from a Facebook profile need to be claimed by a Business Account. In Business Settings, go to Ad Accounts > Add > Claim an Ad Account and enter the Ad Account ID.
Multiple Pixels installed on the store. If more than one Pixel is firing on your Shopify store, Meta may attribute conversions to the wrong one. Use the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension to check how many Pixels are active on your store, then remove any duplicates through the Meta Shopify App settings.
Facebook Page not associated with the Business Account. Ads require a Page to run. If your Page isn't connected to the same Business Account as your Ad Account, Agency AI won't be able to create campaigns. Add the Page through Business Settings > Accounts > Pages.
After Fixing Your Assets
Once all assets are properly linked:
- Disconnect Agency AI's Meta connection (if currently connected).
- Reconnect by clicking "Connect to Meta" in the Agency AI dashboard.
- During the authorization flow, verify that all four assets (Business Account, Ad Account, Page, Pixel) appear correctly.
- Confirm the Agency AI dashboard shows green status indicators for all connected assets.
