What to Do If Your Meta Authorization Pop-Up Doesn't Appear
Overview
When you click "Connect to Meta" inside Agency AI, a pop-up window should open where Meta guides you through granting permissions and selecting your business assets. If this pop-up doesn't appear, the connection process can't proceed. This is almost always caused by a browser setting or extension — not an issue with Agency AI or your Shopify store.
Why the Pop-Up Might Be Blocked
Meta's authorization flow opens in a separate browser window. Modern browsers and browser extensions are designed to block unexpected pop-ups to protect you from spam and malicious sites. Unfortunately, this can also block legitimate pop-ups like Meta's authorization window.
How to Fix It
Work through the following steps until the pop-up appears.
Step 1: Check Your Browser's Pop-Up Blocker
Most browsers display a small notification in the address bar when a pop-up has been blocked. Look for an icon or message near the URL bar after clicking "Connect to Meta."
Chrome:
- Click the blocked pop-up icon in the address bar.
- Select "Always allow pop-ups from [your Shopify admin URL]."
- Click "Done" and try connecting again.
Alternatively, go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Pop-ups and Redirects and add your Shopify admin URL to the "Allowed" list.
Safari:
- Go to Safari > Settings > Websites > Pop-up Windows.
- Find your Shopify admin URL and set it to "Allow."
- Reload the page and try connecting again.
Firefox:
- Click the pop-up blocked notification in the address bar.
- Select "Allow pop-ups for [your Shopify admin URL]."
- Try connecting again.
Edge:
- Go to Settings > Cookies and Site Permissions > Pop-ups and Redirects.
- Add your Shopify admin URL to the "Allow" list.
- Reload and try connecting again.
Step 2: Disable Ad-Blocker and Privacy Extensions
Browser extensions that block ads, trackers, or scripts can interfere with Meta's authorization window. Common extensions that may cause issues include uBlock Origin, AdBlock Plus, Privacy Badger, Ghostery, and similar tools.
To test whether an extension is causing the issue:
- Temporarily disable all browser extensions.
- Reload your Shopify admin page.
- Click "Connect to Meta" in Agency AI.
- If the pop-up appears, re-enable your extensions one at a time to identify which one was blocking it.
Once identified, you can add an exception for your Shopify admin URL in that extension's settings rather than leaving it disabled entirely.
Step 3: Try a Different Browser
If the pop-up still doesn't appear, try using a different browser. We recommend Google Chrome for the most reliable experience with Meta's authorization flow.
Step 4: Try an Incognito or Private Window
Open an incognito or private browsing window, log into your Shopify admin, and attempt the Meta connection. Incognito windows disable most extensions by default and start with a clean cache, which can help isolate the issue.
Step 5: Clear Your Browser Cache and Cookies
Outdated cached data can sometimes interfere with pop-up behavior:
- Clear your browser's cache and cookies for the last 24 hours.
- Close and reopen your browser.
- Log back into Shopify and try the connection again.
Step 6: Check for Multiple Screens or Minimized Windows
In some cases, the pop-up window opens but appears behind your current browser window or on a secondary monitor. After clicking "Connect to Meta," check your taskbar or dock for a new browser window. If you're using multiple monitors, check the other screen.
