Fix: "Failed To Complete Meta Authorization" Error During Meta Authorization

Why am I seeing this error?

When you authorize Meta through Agency AI, we look for a Facebook Page, Instagram account, and Ad Account that are all linked together and associated with your Shopify store. If these assets aren't connected on Meta's side, the authorization can't complete.

This typically happens when:

  • Your Ad Account was created separately from your Facebook Page or Instagram account
  • Your Instagram account isn't connected to your Facebook Page
  • You recently created a new Ad Account, Page, or Instagram business account
  • Your business assets are spread across multiple Meta Business Portfolios (formerly Business Manager)

We recommend connecting all three (Ad Account, Facebook Page, and Instagram) so Agency AI can fully manage your Meta ad campaigns across both platforms.

The fastest fix: Install the Shopify Facebook & Instagram app

The simplest way to get everything linked properly is to install and configure the official Facebook & Instagram app from Shopify. This app automatically connects your Facebook Page, Instagram account, Ad Account, and Shopify store together in one step.

We have a step-by-step guide here: Setting Up the Facebook & Instagram Shopify App

Once that app is set up and showing a connected status for both Facebook and Instagram, come back to Agency AI and hit Retry Connection. The authorization should go through.

If you'd rather not install the Shopify Facebook & Instagram app, you can link things manually:

Connect your Instagram account to your Facebook Page:

  1. Go to your Facebook Page
  2. Click Settings, then Linked accounts (or Instagram in older layouts)
  3. Click Connect account and log in with your Instagram credentials
  4. Make sure your Instagram account is set to a Business or Creator account (you can switch this in the Instagram app under Settings > Account type and tools)

Link your Ad Account to your Facebook Page:

  1. Go to Meta Business Suite and select your Business Portfolio
  2. Navigate to Settings (gear icon, bottom left)
  3. Under Accounts, click Ad Accounts
  4. Select your Ad Account, then click Connect assets and choose your Facebook Page
  5. If your Ad Account is in a different Business Portfolio than your Page, you'll need to either move one or request access from the other portfolio's admin

After completing both steps, return to Agency AI and retry the connection.
