Fix: "Failed To Complete Meta Authorization" Error During Meta Authorization
Quick answer
Agency AI needs two things from Meta to finish authorization: an ad account and a Facebook Page, both accessible to the Facebook profile you signed in with, both in the same Business Portfolio. "Failed to complete Meta authorization" means one of those wasn't found. If the message continues with "Unable to locate an ad account and page", go straight to that fix. Otherwise, work through the causes below, then reconnect from Settings → Meta account.
What Agency AI looks for
| Asset | Needed? |
|---|---|
| Ad account | Required |
| Facebook Page | Required |
| Dataset (Pixel) | Required for purchase optimization and ROAS reporting |
| Catalog | Only for Dynamic (catalog) ads |
| Instagram account | Optional. Ads still run on Instagram through your Page |
Cause 1: Page and ad account are in different portfolios
Common when the Page was created from a personal profile years ago and the ad account was created later inside a Business Portfolio, or when an agency owns one of them.
Fix: bring both under the portfolio you'll authorize with.
- Go to Business settings and select your portfolio.
- Accounts → Pages. If your store's Page isn't listed, click Add → Add a Page (you own it) or Request access (someone else owns it).
- Accounts → Ad accounts. If your ad account isn't listed, Add → Add an ad account (you own it) or Request access.
- Select the ad account, open People, and confirm your profile has Manage ad account.
Cause 2: no Page at all
Meta ads can't run without a Page. Create one at facebook.com/pages/create using the profile that administers your portfolio, then add it to the portfolio under Accounts → Pages.
Cause 3: signed in with the wrong profile
Meta only shows assets the signed-in profile can manage. If the pop-up offers a personal ad account or a portfolio you don't recognize, you're on the wrong profile. Log out of Facebook, log in with the profile that runs your business, and reconnect.
Cause 4: assets weren't ticked in the pop-up
Meta's authorization pop-up has a separate screen for each asset type. Leaving the ad account or Page screen unticked produces this error even when everything is set up correctly. See Unable to locate an ad account and page for the reconnect steps with each screen shown.
Shortcut: the Facebook & Instagram Shopify app
If you'd rather not sort assets by hand, install Shopify's official Facebook & Instagram app and run its setup. It links your Page, ad account, dataset and catalog under one portfolio in a single flow. Guide: Setting Up the Facebook & Instagram Shopify App. When it shows connected for both Facebook and Instagram, come back to Agency AI and reconnect.
Reconnect
- Agency AI → Settings → Meta account → Disconnect Meta Account.
- Connect to Meta. Pick the portfolio, tick the ad account and Page (plus dataset, catalog, Instagram if used), click Done.
- Confirm the selections in Settings and click Save Pixel & Instagram Settings. Create Ad should now show the green Integration is setup check under Meta.
