Fix: "Unable to locate an ad account and page" during Meta authorization

Quick answer

The full message reads: "Failed to complete Meta authorization: Unable to locate an ad account and page. Please ensure the Meta user has granted the required permissions." It means the Facebook profile you signed in with granted Agency AI a Page but no ad account. Nine times out of ten the ad account checkbox was left unticked on Meta's authorization screen. Reconnect and tick it. The rest of this article covers the other causes.

Cause 1: the ad account wasn't granted (most common)

Meta's authorization pop-up asks, screen by screen, which assets Agency AI may use: Business Portfolio, Pages, Instagram accounts, ad accounts, datasets (pixels), catalogs. Granting a Business Portfolio does not grant its ad accounts. Each asset type has its own screen, and the ad account screen is easy to skip with "Opt out" or by leaving every box unticked.

Fix:

  1. In Agency AI go to Settings → Meta account and click Disconnect Meta Account.
  2. Click Connect to Meta. When the pop-up opens, click Edit settings or Edit access if Meta offers it (it does when you've authorized before). Otherwise work through the screens.
  3. On the ad accounts screen, tick the ad account you run ads from. On the Pages screen, tick your store's Page.
  4. Finish with Done and let Agency AI reload.

You can also add the ad account without a full reconnect: on Facebook go to Settings → Business integrations, find Agency AI, click View and edit, and tick the ad account. Then reconnect in Agency AI so we pick up the change.

Cause 2: your profile doesn't have access to the ad account

Meta only lets you grant assets your profile can manage. If someone else set up the ad account, your profile may have no access, or Analyst access only.

Fix: ask an admin of the Business Portfolio to go to Business settings → Accounts → Ad accounts, select the ad account, click Add people, and give your profile Manage ad account (full control). Then reconnect in Agency AI.

Cause 3: the portfolio has no ad account to grant

New Business Portfolios are limited by Meta to one ad account until the portfolio builds spend history. If that one account is already dedicated to another brand, there is nothing left to grant, and the error appears even though everything looks connected on Meta's side.

Fix: create a separate Business Portfolio for the new brand. A new portfolio gets its own ad account slot. Keep your existing Page, Instagram account, dataset (pixel), and catalog where they are and share them into the new portfolio as a partner rather than moving them. Step by step: Running a second brand on Meta.

We recommend this over creating a fresh ad account inside the old portfolio, because it keeps each brand's ad history and reporting separate.

Cause 4: the ad account is restricted or disabled

A disabled ad account can't be granted. Check facebook.com/accountquality. If you see a restriction, follow Meta restricted your account during setup before reconnecting.

What Agency AI needs, and what it doesn't

Asset Needed?
Ad account Required
Facebook Page Required
Dataset (Pixel) Required to optimize for purchases and report ROAS
Catalog Only for Dynamic (catalog) ads
Instagram account Optional. Without it, ads still run on Instagram through your Page
